KSC Design 3 - WK 2, Wednesday, 1.25.12

We met and talked about some ads. Positives, negatives. One observation was that almost ALL of the favorite tv spots used humor.

We then discussed a little about "brainstorming", or idea generation a little bit. The more educated, more  informed designer has a better chance at success. Use mind-mapping, forced connections, word association lists, etc, to come up with good smart innovative ideas.

Creative brief. The creative brief is the birth certificate of all good ideas. The creative brief is made up of several questions that get to the heart of the product or organization, the target audience, the key messaging, and the most salient bits of info about the product/organization. In other words, the information you need to create a good creative solution to a problem.

The project: Create or re-envision a new organization or product that fills a niche. Stage one is going to be create a brief for yourself, name the product/organization, concept a logo and tag line and flesh that out into an identity system that we can roll out into other marketing endeavors.

Homework (due at the beginning of class):
Decide on your company/organization
Research/Create a brief
Concept (alone or in groups)
Bring AT LEAST 50 rough sketches of logos

I will send out a sample creative brief. Soon.
